Really, there WAS a time before Google. No kidding!

Actually there was an Internet before WWW but that's a whole different story. And yes, I was on the net even before *that*. Call me old fart if you like, but back then, the internet was still awesome, so nya! :P

I used the internet for the first time in 1997 (6 years old then). I remember typing the web address like this- www. deviant art. com/ :lol:

I had an Amstrad 6128 back then (actually I still have it and it still worked last time I checked).
I couldn't afford a modem for it back then though, not to mention any arising phone bill costs.

My main source of information back then in the early days of WWW used to be Altavista which now belongs to Yahoo and apparently is now about to get closed down after fourteen years.
Before Altavista there was the World-Wide Web Worm. Another gem in the history of the net, already long gone and mostly forgotten.

Anyone remember Gopher?

Gopher was like WWW in text-only mode.

No blinking banner ads, no annoying flash, no pop-ups, no eye-maiming layouts... aaah, good times... ;)
