On the lookout

Common kestrel perching on a ledge high up on the remains of the castle walls of the "Hochburg" castle near Emmendingen (Germany).

While visiting this impressive castle, I could watch three kestrels playing tag among the updrafts of the castle hill. Even though they were coming really close to me on the castle walls at times, it was almost impossible to catch them in flight and get a sharp picture because they were so fast. This was a rare moment when one of them actually settled down for a few seconds before diving down the walls again and resuming chase with his playmates.
